PRACTICE

DERIVED FROM RESEARCH: APPLICATIONS FOR PRACTITIONERS

A RDGH goal is to identify through research the underlying mechanisms that may be creating or sustaining disparities in health, maladaptive coping responses, racism, health practitioner behavior, bias, or stereotypes; and, to extend these findings in practice. It is also important to disseminate research findings and scholarship that suggests how these factors can be addressed in practice in order to reduce health disparities. The identification of such variables is vital to the RGDH proposal for and launching of a decade of health disparities reduction and the identification of evidence-based interventions to reduce disparities in health. Health care providers/practitioners, in particular, may receive training tailored to ensure that their behavior, any bias, or stereotypes do not influence their health communications with clients/patients.
